Through the “Inclusive Businesses in Loreto” project, Interoc Peru is transforming agriculture in the region through the use of technology and innovation, quadrupling yields and improving the quality of life of local farmers with programs such as “Entrepreneurship to Grow.”
Motivated by its corporate purpose of “Improving the Quality of Life and Creating a Better World,” the company formed an interdisciplinary team to develop a project in Loreto that seeks to provide farmers with a concrete response to their need to optimize the yield of their Hard Yellow Corn crop through the use of technology and innovation in the field.
In response, in 2020, Interoc executives visited the department of Loreto with the mission of developing a project that would provide well-being to corn farmers. A team comprised of employees from the Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Development departments set the goal of improving farmers’ quality of life. That visit marked the beginning of an exciting and challenging journey, which for almost five years has generated actions focused on sustainably improving the productivity of hard yellow corn in the region.
One of the key aspects for launching the “Inclusive Businesses Loreto” project is that there are approximately 40,000 hectares of hard yellow corn in the region, and more than 90% of them do not use hybrid seeds, leading to low yields. Furthermore, Loreto is one of the regions with the highest rates of poverty and extreme poverty nationwide. Therefore, Interoc’s commitment to increasing yields in the area and improving farmers’ quality of life is very strong.
With this goal in mind, the project, in which Interoc provides farmers with corn technology packages through technical and financial advice, began to materialize. This has significantly increased field yields. “We have managed to quadruple yields through technological change with the Atlas 777 Seed, with our package of crop protection products, and through in-field training and consulting. This is how we have been generating sustainable well-being for farmers and their communities,” says Oscar Rodríguez Jump, Marketing and Seed Development Manager at Interoc Peru.
In recent years, Interoc Peru has reached different communities in Loreto and, in 2024, launched the “Entrepreneurship to Grow” Program (https://emprenderparacrecer.pe/), which provides support to farmers interested in achieving high yields and maximizing their investment in the field. In this sense, the company maintains its goal of spreading good practices and high yields in the region, improving farmers’ harvests and enhancing their quality of life.
